The
40+ Veterans season opened with an excellent entry at
Cardiff
– both for numbers and quality. Eight
of the ladies had played in the 2005 Masters, so at the ‘top end’ of
the draw there was friendly rivalry to see if anyone could book their
place early. Elsewhere,
there was gossip to catch up with, coffee to drink and tennis to play.
Catering,
as usual at Cardiff, was excellent – Caryn, Tony & Sylvie always
look after us very well – in fact I think I noted a certain sluggish
in players in the first match after lunch – would they really have
preferred a siesta?
The
weather wasn’t great – but the sun came out at the end of the day,
as the final match reached its entertaining conclusion – the
inevitable tie-break between Gaynor Edmunds & Kim Vaughan from
Newport and Cardiff’s Joyce Langham & Karen Wallace.
The Newport pair battled to victory, and can now sit back and
relax, and enjoy the summer!
